Laura Anthony Browne is a retired career Public Servant, having spent more than thirty years in senior management positions in the Government of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Over the last twenty years, while having general oversight of the implementation of the Public Sector Investment Programme (PSIP), Laura devoted a great portion of her time to addressing poverty reduction and hunger elimination measures. She believes that given the opportunity to earn a decent living, most persons who are vulnerable to these social scourges – the twin sins of poverty and hunger – can lift themselves into a newer more fulfilling, more rewarding, more independent life. She firmly believes that education is the key to opening that door towards self-reliance and dignity.
Laura’s philosophy is driven by a deep and abiding faith in God, and she finds expression of herself through public worship and also through the proclamation of God’s words as a Local Preacher in the Methodist Church in her home country. Inspired to a great extent by the life and work of Nelson Mandela, Laura believes in persevering in the face of odds, and she has found to be true, an expression by Mandela that, “it always seems impossible until it is done”.
Laura has mentored several young women in her home country, including her two daughters, La’Ron and T’sha. Laura is a graduate in economics from the UWI Cave Hill and holds post graduates degrees in financial Economics, Marketing and Socio-Linguistics.
